The Western Charity Alliance in conjunction with Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation and Ministry of Youth & Sports organized mFarmacy and Youth Capacity Building symposium.
The symposiums were held in Ba on Friday and in Nadi on Saturday where youths flocked in numbers despite the adverse weather condition to take part in the workshop and learn about mFarmacy Project and backyard gardening project to sustain the livelihoods of people and empower healthy eating habits.
The theme for the symposium was Youth responsibilities towards community development.
Vodafone’s Project Officer and Western Charity Alliance Executive Director Mr Jitendra Naidu elaborated that our youths are the change agent and can bring in a greater change towards development and change to our environment. Youths needs to change their mentality and involve in farming vigorously, especially backyard gardening to sustain our livelihoods not only by planting and eating fresh chemical free vegetables form our backyard but also to contribute towards increasing NCD problems, which is a major concern in our country at the moment. By doing a backyard garden people will also save money and will indirectly boost the economy for a better and brighter future. (killing 3 birds with 1 stone)
Mr Naidu added that Western Charity strongly believes agriculture is the only option for sustainable livelihoods in the western division as we have abundant lands available in the western division which are not utilize efficiently.
The Backyard gardening project will bring in a tremendous change in our environment which will also contribute towards our environment. With the help from the youths we will engage people to involve in organic and holistic farming.
We are fortunate to team up with Ministry of Youth & Sports and we thank and appreciate Mr Valami Nima (Divisional Youth Officer-Western for his contribution and assurance towards the program in many ways.
Our Charity is also in depth to ASP Iokimi Navonu in allowing us to use Namaka Police Bure for the symposium; he also assured us that the premises can be used at any time for holding meetings and capacity building workshop for the betterment of the community and the people.
Western Charity Alliance objective is to engage and empower people in organic and holistic farming (gardening) to combat rising NCD issues and healthy eating diets.
Its high time now that we youths have to act as a change agent and bring in social and economic change in our community.
